Skull and Bones Wreath

My boys have been anxiously waiting on me to get out our Halloween and Fall decorations boxes.  We love to decorate for Halloween.  The boys love watching scary movies and wearing different costumes and especially love all the Halloween candy!

This year I wanted to make a different wreath for my front door, and I seriously considered making one of those cute wreaths with the witch's legs on the bottom and the witch's hat on the top, but then I found something that suited my boys better.

We're not a house full of witches here at Ferrell Farm.  No . . .  with a bunch of rowdy boys living here, a witch on the front door just doesn't convey the anxiety a person should feel when on the brink of entering our home.  Ha!   :-D

I spotted this great Halloween wreath on Pinterest earlier this month and quickly decided it was perfect for the Ferrell boys.

The original post for making this wreath can be found on Ready, Set, Craft! blog.

I stopped by Walmart last week after my doctor's appointment and picked up a bag of bones from their Halloween section.  My bag of bones came with 12 loose bones.

The wreath above used more bones than just twelve, so I knew I would have to make some adjustments when making my wreath.

I also bought a straw wreath form too.  I hadn't read the instructions for making the wreath so I didn't know that Meg, the original designer of the skeleton wreath, had not used a wreath form.  She just glued her bones together in a wreath shape.  I tried her method, but I didn't have enough bones.  It turned out that I needed the wreath form after all.

I arranged the bones on the straw wreath form trying to see what would work the best for me.

The bones didn't cover the wreath form well, so I decided to embellish the wreath with some black tulle I had stashed in my Halloween boxes.  I cut it into strips and tied it around the wreath so that the ends were on the outside of the wreath and some of the ends (shorter ones) were also on the inside of the wreath.

Then I hot-glued the bones on the wreath arranged as I had finally decided.  I liked having the hands together in the front.  (I don't know why.)

As you can see in the picture above, the straw wreath was still showing even after I had tied the tulle on it.

I decided to add pieces of a black and white feather boa I had from an old Cruella Deville costume to fill in the open places.  Here is my finished wreath:

It's a little different from the one I saw on Pinterest, but I love it and so do my boys.  :)

I've been writing about Comfort and Home everyday this October and this wreath doesn't really evoke any feelings of Comfort . . . but if you live in a house full of little boys . . . this is exactly the kind of wreath that makes them feel happy at home during Halloween.  If you're happy at home, even if it's because of a scary skull and bone wreath on your door, then you're probably comfortable at home as well.  Or at least as comfortable as you can be as the only girl in a house full of boys!  :)

On Halloween, this wreath will definitely send a message of warning and caution for any Trick or Treaters coming to see . . . . . . . .
