Is there Comfort in Clutter?

Living with 3 little boys, 1 busy husband, 8 rambunctious dogs, 5 pecking chickens, and 3 curious cats . . .

I have lots of clutter.  I'm not comfortable in clutter . . . not at all!

But sometimes it's like I'm on a treadmill running as fast as I can and getting absolutely no where when I try to get my house clean, organized, and clutter-free.  The stuff just seems to reproduce faster than I can control it.

I recently read a couple of blog posts from a fellow Mississippi blogger who has written about her process of "decrapification."

Read her posts about her decrapification process at http://www.thebroadusbunch.com/  and specifically in these two posts:
The Process of Decrapification (Part 1)
The Process of Decrapification Dos (Part 2)

After reading her posts, I got to thinking about all the stuff a/k/a crap I have in my house.  It's really hard to imagine how I could accumulate so much stuff in this house we've only been living in for the past 3 years.  I wish I could say that lots of the stuff was moved from our old house into the new house, but it wasn't.  We bought a storage shed to hold the old house stuff until I could get around to unpacking it.

I haven't unpacked it.  It's still in there.  The stuff in the new house is just newly accumulated stuff.  Scary.

So I'm going to try to decrapify my house and thus, my life.

In her blog posts, Sarah Broadus says that without all the stuff in her life, she would have more time for her children . . . more time to do things with her children . . . and even draw closer in her relationship with God.

Sounds good to me!

But where to start?!?

I think I'll start right here . . . . in the Living Room . . .with this piece of furniture that has become the magnet for lots of stuff . . .

So I leave you now with my new mission of "decrapification" of this favorite wardrobe.  It's stuffed full with board games, video games, Easter decorations . . .

and toddler clothes from when Zach and Alex were 2 and 3 years old . . .

I know!  Hard to believe that there are little toddler clothes still in the drawers from 7 or 8 years ago!  And keepsake items too!

But not for long!  I'll be back to update you soon (probably in a couple of days)  with my results!

The results of my decrapification of the clutter and stuff accumulated over the years in this one piece of furniture by . . . .

                         the Ferrell boys and me!

  1. I love to see before and afters when people are decluttering. It always inspires me to throw something away!
