Finally! Ornaments for the Tree!

On December 4th, the elf, Jeff, surprised the boys with his daredevil antics on the mantle.

He must have heard the boys talking about getting dirt bikes for Christmas . . . as if that's going to happen!

Our Christmas activity for the evening was to finally decorate the Christmas tree with our ornaments.  Every year the boys fight over the ornaments . . . whose ornament is it . . . who gets to hang it on the tree . . . etc.

This year I decided to divide the ornaments up into 4 baskets. One for each boy and one for me.

It actually worked out great.

The boys loved going through their baskets and unwrapping the ornaments I had given them to hang.

And they didn't disagree much at all.  In fact, they all got along rather well.  :)

The older boys were very helpful to Shane and to each other.

We had such a good time together.  Really good family time.

Shane's favorite ornament is a Hallmark one . . .
a matchbox car ornament that when you push a button it goes Vvvrooom, Vvvrooom, and then starts playing this wild music.

Shane loves to push the button and . . .

dance and dance and dance . . .

over and over and over again.

Dave helped Shane put some of his ornaments up high on the tree.

For some reason, Shane kept placing all his ornaments on the same tree branch.  I would try to move them around to space them out a little better, but after they went to bed I notice these 3 ornaments on the same tree branch.

After decorating the tree, we continued our daily countdown by Alex reading the scripture for our Nativity Countdown.

Matthew 1:20-21

King James Version (KJV)
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. (source)

Shane placed the angel on the Nativity countdown.

Zach got to read our Christmas book before we headed off to bed.

Alex used an ornament to act out the book as Zach read it to us.

Our decorated tree using a flash . . .

Our beautifully decorated tree without the flash . . .

After the boys went to bed, I was left with this lovely mess to clean up:

But it was a small price to pay for all the fun we had decorating the tree together.  :)

And so concludes day 4 of our countdown to Christmas with . . .

                                 the Ferrell boys and me!
